This novel is the third book in A.J. Lape’s hilarious and electrifying Darcy Walker Investigations series—an evolution of teenage heroine to pizza delivery driver to police officer on the streets of LA.
Darcy Walker is a rookie police officer working the nightshift in the Los Angeles Police Department. A job tailor-made for adrenaline junkie Darcy, but one thing her new position entails is following the rules. Barely thirty days in and she fights the itch to go rogue when a Vegas mobster named Fat Tony sends someone to kidnap her and a reality television star winds up dead on her watch.
Against orders, Darcy bloodhounds Fat Tony behind her sergeant’s back and secretly runs her own vice op inside a TV series to find a murderer. But what she sees as going above and beyond the call of duty, detectives take as interference in their cases. She's on thin ice, and they let her know she's about to get wet.
Can Darcy stay in her lane and leave investigations to those in the suits, or will Fat Tony kidnap her and it won’t even matter?
For fans of Stephanie Plum, Veronica Mars, Fortune Redding, and other mystery-thriller heroines, Ride or Die will leave you laughing one minute…then hiding under your bed the next.
★★★★★ I always am excited when it's time to take another trip with Darcy. She's one of my all time favorite characters. I absolutely love her fierceness and her loyalty. I also love that she's a little bit reckless because she knows herself and how to handle situations. She knows she's a bad a$$ and she's not afraid to show it. She makes me laugh and sometimes cringe, but I always have a fun time and never want the ride to end.
★★★★★ "There is a lot of action here right from the word go, and plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing all the time. I love the Stephanie Plum series and this book put me right back there." - Reader's Favorite Reviewer
★★★★★ Darcy is back and finally an LAPD officer! Some new faces, but all my favorites are back. Still the same verb, stepping on toes and doing her own thing. She won’t stop until she solves the mystery. Be prepared to stay up all night cause you won’t be able to put this one down!
★★★★★ What's better than a humorous, crime solving Darcy as a night time pizza delivery driver? A grown up Darcy as a rogue L.A.P.D. rookie, that's what!Darcy Walker is now an official police officer working nights for the L.A.P.D. You would think this would keep her from getting personally involved with murderers and mobsters, but Darcy is a verb that can not be contained. The problem with Darcy is that she struggles to follow rules and after only weeks in her new job she finds herself investigating a murder of a popular TV series cast member on her personal time. If this wasn't bad enough, this occurs while a Vegas mobster, Fat Tony, decides he wants to kidnap Darcy for perceived wrongs. In typical laugh out loud Darcy fashion, Darcy once again uses her unorthodox investigative skills. With a little help from her "Jester" organized crime connections, family, and friends, (old and new), Darcy sets out to right the wrongs in her personal and professional life. Will walking this thin line between following official rules and being wanted by a mob boss be the end of Darcy's short career as a police officer?Ride along with Darcy as she attempts to out smart and outrun murderers and mobsters, while struggling to keep her new job with the L.A.P.D. Her journey will leave you cheering on Darcy and wanting to see what kind of trouble she'll manage to get into in the future.I've read the complete Darcy Walker series and have loved meeting all of the clever characters and watching how Darcy's past influenced her future. In "Ride or Die", AJ Lape once again manages to use humor, lively charcaters, and action, (lots of action), to create a fun filled, fast paced mystery that will leave you wanting more Darcy!
★★★★ I feel like I don't get enough Darcy Walker. Although the time between her books releasing isn't all that long, it feels like it's ages between them. I am so glad this author hasn't given up on Darcy. I love her adventures so much. I don't know if I will ever tire of them.Like in Darcy's previous encounters, she finds herself in a murder mystery that has her delving into the underbelly of criminals yet again. The difference this time around is she is a police officer. While trying to find her footing as a rookie officer, Darcy walks a tightrope of staying on the right side of the law while trying to dig herself out of jams.I really enjoyed this, as all of the previous books. Lape's writing never disappoints. The humor. The fun plots. The emotional angst. The colorful, fun characters. I will always be in the front of the line cheering for more Darcy Walker. I can only hope that we get wedding bells in the future. Maybe not too soon, yet. I am enjoying the real world fears of Darcy's right now.
