Henry Davidson has a sublime encounter with a strange creature while leading a survey crew through the remote hills and hollows of Yonah Ridge. His curiosity about the creature turns to horror when he learns of two deadly attacks in the vicinity. His horror turns to outrage when he realizes local officials are unwilling to draw attention to the incidents due to a planned development they hope will bring jobs to the area's depressed economy.
